Combining modern and tra- ditional visual and typesetting forms, three poems of different styles are col- lected, namely Tang Poems, Song Ci, and Yuan Qu. And the three poems are selected around the theme of ‘MISS’. This shows the unique oriental writing form and the expression of implicit and introverted feelings, which are vividly displayed in ancient poems, which rep- resent special cultural significance and national characteristics.

The content of the two long images that are important supplements to Dragon Scale Binding are based on: the combination of the overall visual elements of the poem and the modern poem about ‘miss’ that also appears at the end of the book.

DESIGN POINT

Although the binding methods and con- tents are traditional and have a long history, the overall style of the books produced combines bold innovation with modern design directions. Three main colours are used in the book to correspond to the three poems. The choice of colours is mainly based on the content and theme of the poems.

For example, the colour corresponding to the Song Ci (poem) INTOXICATED UNDER THE SHADOW OF FLOWER is sapphire. After in-depth understanding and research of the poem, I learned that although this poem is written to the poet’s lover, the content is implicit and deep, but sad and mild, so The cool and intense blue colour fits the overall feel of the poem.

Every visual image has a design source. Visual images derived from the elements of dogwood (a flower required in the tradition of Double Ninth Festival) and chrysanthemum are important elements mentioned in Song Ci (poem) INTOXICATED UNDER THE SHADOW OF FLOWER. These two flowers not only represent the season at that time The cold environment also adds to the festive atmosphere, but the poet feels lonely alone.
